“Build it and they will come!” The City of Toronto did just that for the 2011 Street Buds Tournament this past weekend April 9-10 as they constructed three temporary rinks in the Canadian National Exhibition park grounds at the Better Living Centre. The event played host to twenty six teams at five age groups culminating with the championship games.

The Premier Ball Hockey League will be hosting the SHOWCASE PRE SEASON TOURNAMENT from April 6-10 in Mississauga and Vaughan and with the aid of their own aficionado, the Grand Pooh Bah have compiled the following on all the teams competing at this year’s tournament. Who will be carrying the ultimate orange ball prize at tournament end? We try to give some insight into each of the teams below:

Hockey Canada has named the 36 players who will compete at the 2011 IIHF Women’s World Championships which include four alumni from the Oshawa Minor Ball Hockey League.

The Canadian Ball Hockey Association has announced its Women’s roster for the World Championships to be held in Bratislava, Slovakia in June.

On Saturday, February 12, 2011, Downsview Park hosted their 7th annual 3 on 3 Ball Hockey Tournament which had one hundred and six teams competing in nine divisions of play. The event is held every year on Hockey Day in Canada.

They are indeed! The Ontario Ball Hockey Association will be hosting two Pre Season tournaments in April which will see men’s and women’s teams from the United States of America play versus some of Ontario’s best clubs.

On January 29, 2011, the Burlington Ball Hockey League family lost Bill Groves to a long battle with cancer.  Bill was the Referee-in-Chief, a close friend and a dedicated member of the organization  and was involved with the BBHL from the inception of the league going back to 1988 and was our Referee Chief for the last 20 years. Bill was very instrumental in getting the league to where they is it today.

The International Street & Ball Hockey Federation (I.S.B.H.F.) Player of the Year is given annually to a junior (even numbered years) or male/female player (odd numbered years) who are the best in the world, based on votes by ISBHF directorate at the annual meetings.
