Word On The Street

Ben Davis

Ben Davis was the consummate 'power forward' who was a dominate force in the game of ball hockey since he arrived with the Etobicoke Raiders.  He established a presence in both ends of the rink with his size, speed and offensive savvy. One of the fiercest competitors in the game, only his spirit and intense competitive nature superceded his skills as a player that ultimately made him a proven winner returning to play for the Toronto Panthers in the late nineties adding leadership before the team moved to the Premier league of participation.

Mr. Davis was the complete package. He was a dedicated, highly skilled, hardworking and most sought after individual whose myriad of successes is a testament to his diversion as a player.

Nonetheless, his accomplishments did not end there. The forward, who combined speed, tenaciousness and prowress in his game and in 1995 was a pick-up for the Fernview Rangers which at the time were the sport's most tenured franchise at the National Championships.

Upon his return, he would lead the Panthers to league titles before being selected to Team Canada at the 1996, 1998 and again in 2001 World Championships where he was selected to captain the squad on home soil.

There could not have been a more appropriate epilogue to an individual's career who epitomized professionalism and perseverance both on and off the playing surface and who's rewards were finally realized. Ben Davis, whose qualities as an individual along with his accomplishments as a player made him one of the premier practitioners in 'Orange Ball' history.
