Junior Team Canada (JTC) Hosts Inaugural Prospects Camp

Brampton, Canada - All roads lead to Brampton for the top U16 & U18 prospects for the JTC program.

The destination of their pilgrimage which took place on a Saturday, July 25 in Brampton attracted 80 players.   The Prospects Camp featured rigorous series of skill assessment drills inserted throughout the four practices followed by four scrimmages.

Scott Jacobi, General Manager, who organized the camp, said, “we have representation from 14 centres which will assist in growing the sport.” He continued, “interest in the camp will grow in future years and expanded as the sport grows.”  Jacobi continued, “it’s a ‘show me what you got’ type of situation.”

“We have always used tournaments for the selection process, but this brings in the best players, as we have one location and all the scouts have been brought in.  We have a captive audience and they can all watch and measure the skills of the players.  This camp was about opportunity.”

“Ball Hockey is a great game but there isn’t enough opportunity for some smaller centre’s” Jacobi said. “These players all think about playing the game they love and the passion level is consistent among all the prospects.  This is the national team, if they can get the opportunity, why not?”

Stephen Dockerty, JTC High Performance Director, “athletes are among the most focused people there are and many do not realize that they are among the next generation of leaders. We see this camp in helping them attain an experience through playing the sport they love and opportunity of helping shape this next generation of leaders. Giving them an opportunity to play somewhere is just part of the building blocks to their future and for our own future generations.”

The teams will be participating at the World Ball Hockey Federation Championships the week of June 26 to July 3 in Prague, Czech Republic along with the U20 team.

OBHA Men's C, D, E divisions Provincial Championships

The Men’s Provincial Championships have undoubtedly become the showcase event for the men’s game and teams throughout Ontario participate in a weekend long festival of ball hockey.

The 2015 tournaments were hosted in Burlington and there was no exception as the tradition continued.

Sport and competition go hand in hand, and the presentation of the individual medals, along with the championship trophy to the divisional winners has become an OBHA tournament tradition. Nonetheless, parity dominated the provincial championships this year.

Interestingly enough, the competition is often overshadowed by the fun and frivolity shared by teammates, their families and friends in attendance as the event unfolds.

Congratulations to all of the tournament administrators, officials, the teams and their coaches and players along with the fans in attendance that once again made the men’s provincial championship event a huge success.
