When thinking of World Ball Hockey Championships most would associate it with the Junior Team Canada program (JTC). The JTC has had many young individuals from the Beeton, Ontario area as part of the program over the past few years. But in just a few short weeks, a new group of individuals from this area will be heading to Bratislava, Slovakia for another World Championship, this time it wont be players under 20, it will be players over 40.

The World Master Mens Ball Hockey Championship are being put on by the International Street & Ball Hockey Federation (ISBHF) for the first time. As ball hockey continues to grow right across Canada in all age groups, the Master Mens division is one age group that is becoming stronger every year, where this is evident is in the Beeton Mens Ball Hockey League. In fact, the Beeton Xtreme Master Mens team won the 2009 Provincials and have been strong competitors in the years prior. With this great triumph along with a strong master mens division within the association, the Canadian Ball Hockey Association (CBHA) offered the Beeton Xtreme team a spot in the upcoming world tournament. As the CBHA has formed its own Team Canada roster with players from all over the country, the Xtreme players see themselves as a Team 'Xtreme' Canada II and look forward as well at representing their country against teams from around the world.

The team has picked up a few players from Penetang, Withrow Park, Toronto and a second goaltender from Edmonton, Alberta that will join the high level players already with the Xtreme team. As the team has been practicing as well as doing conditioning and strength training over the past few months, the team entered the Hornets Ball Hockey Tournament this past Thanksgiving weekend as a tune up to the World Championships. "This tournament had some great competitive teams including a local team of 18-25 year olds (some of which were former U20 Team Canada players) and a team from Barrie," said Bill Houston, Xtreme Team Captain. "It was a great experience for our team which demonstrated a remarkable level of skill, teamwork, competitive energy and stamina," added Houston. At the end of the five game day, the 40+ year old Xtreme team came out with an impressive 3 wins, 0 losses and 2 ties. In their final game they were 2-1 winners which gave them bragging rights as the tournament champions. The tournament was a fundraiser for the local Junior C Alliston Hornets hockey club. "Many of these Xtreme players have children that either play high level ball hockey or as well played in this weekend tournament with other teams, it was a great feeling to see the dad's/adults get their time in the spotlight," commented Xtreme player Carlo Carlucci.

"As much as this was a great triumph, we know we still need to work hard over the next three weeks as we prepare for the World's," said Greg St Amant, head coach. "The boys are working hard and understanding the systems being put in place during our preparation for the Worlds, I feel that this team will not just be an entry at the Worlds but will be a fierce contender," said Gary Slavin, General Manager.
