The event was hosted in the City of Mississauga, May 12 and 13, and was indeed a showcase for all the competing players and teams and the host the Ontario Ball Hockey Association. Thirty-two boys and ten girls teams from across the province competed hard as the OBHA Crowned Highschool Champions at their respective division.

And to the victors go the spoils!

The presentation of the championship trophy, signature wearables has become synonymous with OBHA supremacy. It is an accomplishment and one of the most sought after collection of trinkets in sports today. The experience and bragging rights is the goal of most teams at the highschool level of play in the province.

It was no doubt nothing less than a resounding experience for the boys and girls advancing to the championship finals as the teams all played good team defence, scored timely goals en route to the boys and girls ‘orange ball’ championships for highschool athletics.

In the Girls ‘A’ tournament, Ecole Secondaire Le Caron captured the title with a 1-0 victory over Banting Memorial. The ‘B’ division had St. Theresa’s win 2-1 over Frontenac.

The Boy’s ‘A’ final would see two familiar foes as Banting Memorial played Penetanguishene for the third year in a row. This was a hard fought defensive battle as Banting Memorial would score midway through the first period and hold on as Penetanguishene would ring a shot off the cross bar in the final minute of play.

In Boy’s ‘BB’ there was very little seperating the teams and after the hard fought preliminary round games the Final Four in each division had been determined and the tournament was open for any team to win. However, once the dust had settled, it was Simcoe Composite winning 2-1 over Le Caron and in Boy’s ‘B’ Frontenac out lasted St. Theresa’s 3-2 decided in double overtime.

Boy’s ‘CC’ finals would be an exhausting back and forth game which was ultimately decided in overtime, the tired eyes of the Turner Fenton finally gazed upon the Championship Cup in what some might consider the most heart wrenching end in the Highschool Tournament’s eleven years…a penalty shot in overtime over Archbishop Romero to win 6-5.

In Boy’s ‘C’, the excitement of the round robin would continue to the final two new schools participating in the tournament for the first time as Midland Secondary would out last the Islamic Foundation en route to the 4-2 win.
