On January 29, 2011, the Burlington Ball Hockey League family lost Bill Groves to a long battle with cancer. Bill was the Referee-in-Chief, a close friend and a dedicated member of the organization and was involved with the BBHL from the inception of the league going back to 1988 and was our Referee Chief for the last 20 years. Bill was very instrumental in getting the league to where they is it today.
The International Street & Ball Hockey Federation (I.S.B.H.F.) Player of the Year is given annually to a junior (even numbered years) or male/female player (odd numbered years) who are the best in the world, based on votes by ISBHF directorate at the annual meetings.
The OBHA will be assisting in promoting the ROAD HOCKEY TO CONQUER CANCER benefiting The Princess Margaret Foundation. Somewhere in the GTA, lacing up skates in a suburban rink, getting ready for his weekly rec hockey game, is a man who as a teenager, once took a beautiful pass from The Great One, went in, made a move and scored.
The Inaugural Womens Winter Classic Tournament was a great weekend as six teams competed for the championship at Rink City in Mississauga and perhaps a sneak preview as we were introduced to some of the better young players the province continues to develop through the minor divisions.
